What a story by Tyler Roberts! His article about Swim for Zoe was released July 14 in the LUMINA NEWS!

Leanne was featured in her hometown paper! Here's an excerpt and link to the Jamestown, New York POST-JOURNAL.

WILMINGTON, N.C.- What began with the inspiration to help others has led Leanne Vella LaFave, Jamestown native and Maple Grove High School graduate, to preparing for the swim of her life - 10 miles across the Intracoastal Waterway, from Carolina Beach to Wrightsville Beach.
"No one has ever attempted to make this swim," Leanne said. "So when I got the idea to do it, I had no idea if it was even possible."
As it turns out, it's very possible, so several times a week Leanne exhausts herself training and preparing, and she carries with her some very special images in her head to keep moving.
"The whole purpose of this swim is to raise money for the Zimbabwe Orphan Endeavor (ZOE) Ministry," Leanne said. "In 2006, I traveled to Africa on a mission trip to work with the ministry and assist orphans suffering from AIDS, and that trip changed my life. I knew since then I wanted to do something, but the things most people do in those situations didn't really appeal to me."
Many thanks to John Beausang who featured SWIM FOR ZOE on his site Distressed Mullet! He sent out a request for a Stand Up Paddleboarder for our big event on August 13. He found quite a treasure! Welcome aboard Guy Davis - our solo paddleboard escort for the swim. Right now, the plan is for him to stay a few feet ahead and to the right of Leanne for sighting.
